Boodler, the open-source soundscape tool

Boodler is a free, open-source tool programmed in Python. It runs natively on Linux, with third party binary ports to Windows. Mac users will have to be content with iTunes and how “pretty” MacOS X is.
Essentially, Boodler generates complex (and not so complex) soundscapes made of many small, individual sounds like crickets chirping, frogs croaking, or thunder rumbling. Thus, “owstorm.RainForever” (one of the soundscapes, and clearly the best, owing to its complexity) generates a thunderstorm which slowly ramps up in intensity over the course of an hour, and then back down, replete with animal noises, wind of varying speeds, and, of course, rain and thunder.
Another entertaining soundscape–”demons.Phrases”–attempts to approximate what hell might sound like. Potentially useful if you have a lot of guests or live in a bad part of town and need a cheap burglar deterrent. Who really wants to rob the Satanist in 3B?
Get it here for Linux, or the Windows version here, or check out the official Boodler site, and enjoy your new rainforest.
