The Gutter Twins - Saturnalia (2008)
Alternative Rock / Blues / Soul

The first full-length collaboration between Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan is a desperate hurricane of despair and debauchery befitting its artful cover. Just be prepared to take your dose of each singer separately, most of the time.

Checking in
Just stopping by to assuage any fears that I might have been abducted, incapacitated, etc.. Incapacitated might work. Incapacitated by a bout of laziness, at any rate.
Regularly scheduled posts will return soon (possibly Halloween evening). Until then, keep the volume at 11 and enjoy life.

Porcupine Tree - We Lost the Skyline (2008) [LIVE] and Nil Recurring (2007) [EP]
Prog-Rock / Hard Rock / Acoustic / Experimental

In Absentia or Deadwing are likely to be the first Porcupine Tree albums on anyone’s plate, but their massive back catalog is solid all the way through. The Tree’s two most recent releases carry the torch.

Les Fragments de la Nuit - Musique Du Crépuscule (2008)
Modern Classical / Experimental

French neo-classicalists Les Fragments de la Nuit toss us under a killing moon on the haunting Musique Du Crépuscule.

Rise Against - Appeal to Reason (2008)
Hardcore Punk / Punk Revival / Melodic Hardcore

Rise Against’s stripped-down, bare essentials, roots-of-punk simplicity accounts for most of their charm, but it’s also their undoing in places.

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble - The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (2006)
Dark Jazz / Ambient Electronic / Instrumental

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble’s approach to genre synthesis sidesteps melodrama, instead delivering uniquely unsettling, dark, and musically rich ambient-jazz bathed in electronica influence.

Souvenir’s Young America - An Ocean Without Water (2007)
Post-Rock / Slowcore / Instrumental

Before Pandora introduced me to Souvenir’s Young America, I went through quite a few post-rock ensembles that didn’t quite fit the bill in my search for the kind of music a space station might play as soundtrack to their decaying orbit.

Bolt - Movement and Detail (2005)
Instrumental / Progressive Math Rock / Indie

Bolt’s mathy prog-rock isn’t quite “take no prisoners” rock by numbers, but it does put rocking first and foremost, and will accept homework questions from envious tone geeks after class.

Slim Cessna’s Auto Club - Cipher (2008)
Gothic Americana / Psychobilly / Folk

At the forefront of the new “Denver sound,” this near-unclassifiable outfit’s rotgut brand of music will make your insides squirm while your feet do-si-do.

Fuck FedEx
Disclaimer: This post may be unsuitable for young children and/or FedEx employees who like their jobs.
I ordered some nice headphones and a headphone amp from Headroom earlier this week. They ship with FedEx. My package was on the FedEx truck, and probably rolling around my neighborhood while I was gone today.
