Goodbye to Sirens Sound?
It sucks to be a post-rock fan right now. Seems that earlier today, Blogspot yanked the massively popular post-rock music blog Sirens Sound off their servers. Shortly thereafter, 4channers decided to go ahead and piss on its grave:

No word of explanation yet as to why it’s gone. Logic and past experience suggests that they’ve become the latest victim of the anti-P2P/music download agenda, despite a meekly compliant disclaimer:
Recording Labels / Artists: As much one may elaborate about promotional purposes and file sharing however there are still many out there who do not agree to these concepts and that perception is totally understandable and respected.
Thus if there are any of your releases on here and you do not agree to the idea of your work being shared across a particular channel for what so ever reasons. A simple email to SirensSound@gmail.com and that should do.
I have previously received mails from artists/recording labels and I do not usually go to war or against anyone who is not comfortable of their work being published. I will in turn have the link or the post removed accordingly ASAP…
Even if you personally never got anything from them, Sirens Sound was a great place to discover new, upcoming, and often unsigned artists. R.I.P..
UPDATE: Mogwai from Sirens Sound says that a new site is a possibility in the future, but not right now. Until then, cross your fingers and keep the underground going. Show your support for the artists you like, whenever you can.
UPDATE #2: Sirens Sound is back.

November 10th, 2008 at 10:46 pmthis is some serious bullshit. many of the bands he posted there were things that actually helped the music industry, i’d discover something and purchase it if i liked it.

November 10th, 2008 at 11:05 pm@mabb: Completely agreed. Right now it’s kinda sketchy and nebulous, legally speaking, but frankly I support Mog and others like him. The suits haven’t fully realized it yet, but this is the future of the music industry.

November 11th, 2008 at 6:03 amHi all…
Mog’ here from SirensSound. Well “X” SirensSound
Listen I just want to say thank you for sticking a note up here about the drastic shut down of SS. To be genuinely honest, I did see this coming but I just didn’t expect it to happen so soon.
“Today 11th of Nov SS is exactly 1 year old”. Blogger sure choose the right fucking time to shut it down.I have received tons of mails, out of which many wonders if I’ ll be starting another blog.
At this point I just don’t have the strength and motivation but in future, who knows…However, in the interim I wish all other bloggers out there all the BEST… and keep sharing the good music.
Regards

November 11th, 2008 at 12:45 pmsuch b/s. that was the only place i could find many unpopular records i couldn’t find any where else, much less find in a store to purchase. i’m glad everyone is so proud of not giving smaller bands a chance at all.

November 11th, 2008 at 8:34 pmAbsolutely agree.
The shut down of possibly one of the best blogs in underground music is near outrage. I would be proud to personally kick the ass of who’s ever job it was to do such a thing, but that’s a completely different story altogether.
I think this should give incentive, especially if the blog actually was shut down for anti-p2p reasons, to start a bunch of new blogs all in the same vein.
Fuck you anti-p2p fagots.

November 19th, 2008 at 10:01 pmGOOD. You should be ashamed of posting in-print music from indie artists. The death of the physical music format is coming soon and MP3 blogs are speeding it up rapidly. I am all for P2P and getting music from friends, but I am completely against posting files to Mediafire/etc and public blogs where anybody that types a band name into Google is presented with a download link. There is no way to justify this. Anybody can upload music these days, you are not helping people in bands whatsoever with these blogs.

@ER: How do you justify P2P but not music blogs? A little consistency would do you good.
>you are not helping people in bands whatsoever with these blogs.
I beg to differ. How many of these indie bands would you even have heard of before getting the download link from music blogs? Sure not everyone will buy a copy of the album after hearing it, but the same thing is true with P2P software, and besides: more people WILL buy a copy of it if more people KNOW IT EXISTS in the first place.
